Marinduque is known as one of the smallest provinces in the Southern Tagalog region. The Island has a good infrastructure, water, electricity, transport and roads. The island has numerous things to do and see, but if you want to just sit back and relax on a secluded beach, you can do that just as well.

The province lies between Bondon Peninsula at the eastern portion of Luzon and Oriental Mindoro which stretches around 137 nautical miles from Manila. It is bordered by Tayabas Bay on the north, Mongong Pass on the northeast, Sibuyan Sea on the southeast and Tablas Strait on the west. The main portal to the island which is approximately 29 nautical miles away from Lucena City is the Balanacan Port.

Marinduque lies in the Sibuyan Sea, somewhat blocking the North Verde Island Passage going to San Bernardino Strait (between Sorsogon and Samar, opening into the Pacific Ocean); and a little north of the Verde Island Passage going to Sulu Sea and Visayan Sea.

The suitable orientation of the province for a situation analysis are portrayed by its geographical and physical traits, demography, social services, peace and order situation, economy, infrastructure and utilities, environment, income and expenditures and municipal classification.

Tres Reyes Marine Sanctuary

Located at the south-western portion of the island, having the three (3) islets of Gaspar, Melchor and Baltazar. Skin and scuba diving is the finest open-air performance on this refuge. In between the first islet of Gaspar and the mainland, was discovered sunken Chinese commercial junk of the Sung and Chang Dynasty. Recovered by a joint team of National Museum and private foreign salvage group were numerous porcelain plates, jars, skillets and others. On the third islet of Baltazar, is an underwater cave on its eastern part 60 to 90 feet deep. Wall drift diving is at its best early in the morning where variety of coral and some pelagic fishes would be clearly visible. Occasional schools of hammerhead sharks pass the western depths of the islets. An American built lighthouse still stands and still working on the center of the islet. Gaspar also has an elongated sand bar that is suitable for family gatherings and swimming, a funeral grotto used by pre-Hispanic Filipinos complete with human bones and shards of potteries on the east and some isolated white sand beaches on the south.

Bathala Caves

The Caves of Bathala are eight different caves, named Church Cave, Secret Cave, Python Cave, Cemetery Cave, Lihim Cave, Underground Cave, River Cave and Kay Mendez Cave. Situated in a 19 hectares area, around 700m.

The biggest cave is called Kuweba ng Simbahan (Cave of the Church), as it was used for worship. It was believed to be the home of Amang Bathala, the Supreme God of the Tagalogs, the indigenous inhabitants of the Philippines. The cave is big enough for 100 people. It seems the cave has always attracted extremists, terrorists and religious sects. The Pulajan Movement worshipped their Supreme God here to regain the potency of their amulets. They believed that their amulets could protect them from the bullets of the American colonizers and their Filipinos allies.

The next were the Samahang Tatlong Persona Solo Dios, who stayed at the cave for a long time during the early 1900s. This sect was formed in Mount Banahaw in Quezon by Agapito Illustrisimo. They believe that Banahaw and Bathala Cave are spiritually connected. They still have a center at the cave.

The next cave is 100m away and called Cemetery Cave, as it was used as a burial site. Excavations revealed earthen jars, china jars, coffin fragments and human relics, including 13 skulls. The excavation was carried out by the French archaeologist Alfred Marche.

The Python Cave is guarded by numerous living pythons. The strange thing is, that the snakes are normally dangerous and aggressive, but here at the cave they are not harmful. They are said to have never harmed visitors. Visitors even take pictures as close as 35cm. The locals explain this with the fact that the snakes are the pets of Bathala.

White Beach

The scenic, 1-km long, fine white-sand White Beach in Poctoy near Torrijos is probably the best beach in Marinduque and is one of the most frequented beaches in the province. It has a magnificent view of Mt. Malindig, and the outlaying coral reef with its clean and clear waters is very good for snorkeling.
