Power Dress to Impress

Let’s face it, most Filipinos are showing a great interest towards a person who has an above average face value. More often, our beauty becomes the measurement of our personality which I think is wrong because no one deserves to be judged or mistreated according to his or her appearance. However in some cases it is really important to look presentable because it is the only way we gain other people’s trust and respect.

Aside from our figure and face, people also notice the way we dress. Our sense of style can either make a good impression or the other way around. I know we shouldn’t give too much importance on what other people will say about our looks but like what I’ve said, looking presentable is the only way to prove other people that we are smart enough to take good care of ourselves.

I would like to commend Kathy Ireland for stating in her article the importance of power dressing. Kathy, being a former super model, entrepreneur, designer and CEO of her clothing line was able to project a convincing image where other people are most likely to follow. According to Ireland, “Power dressing does not mean wearing expensive clothing. Nor does it mean being someone you’re not. It simply means dressing in a way that projects an image of the sophisticated, successful working individual you are or would like to become. We all know that true personal power comes from within.  However, keep in mind that it can be developed, enhanced and honed.” I think this passage is very much informative because it can inspire us on what kind of image we should create. She also stated that we should give more attention on how to dress at work because what we wear may influence our career paths. She also added that although nothing takes the place of talent, hard work, innate ability and ambition, looking your professional best in the workplace can give you a competitive advantage.

Not everyone is privileged to have a pretty face but everyone is given the opportunity to improve themselves. We are always given a chance to kickass and show other people that we are capable of taking good care of ourselves. In the real world no one truly cares of who we are. What people care about is what they see and what pleases them. Before we try to impress other people, let us satisfy ourselves first. Always keep in mind that our personality is an investment in the real world so better make time to enhance ourselves and maximize our personal assets.
