The youth today, being more sexually aggressive can’t conveniently get laid inside their comfort zones because they are scared of getting caught by their parents and siblings. However they can still do their “thing” because most minors can have an easy access in motels. Just a single lie about your age can get you in. Motels or should I say motorists hotels are places where people can rest, dine, unwind and have fun without worrying about their money’s worth. As a matter of fact, motels are 40%-80% less expensive than hotels. However, motels and hotels are almost the same. I think they only differ in 3 things: cleanliness, safety and accessibility. It’s not my intent to talk further about the safety and cleanliness of these motels for we can save it for later. What interests me the most is the fact that the “no minors allowed” policy is not being followed by many. I know that we cannot absolutely blame these motels for accommodating minors because most of them have memorized their script even before they check in. Some minors know what to say and how to react whenever there are confrontations. Maybe they badly need to get in that’s why they’re pretty much improving their acting skills. Study shows that 18% of Filipino teenagers were having sex inside hotels and motels. Now how can motels and hotels explain this increasing percentage? According to Reuters and Dr. Jane Hyde, psychologist; too much television, low-self esteem, disappointing grades and poor family relationships adds up to the reasons why teens are having sex. I think these factors were true because some of the youth thinks that having sex can make them feel good amidst the sappy things that are happening around them. Dr. Hyde stated that kids who engage in early sexual activity are much less likely to use any kind of protection which increases their risk for teen pregnancy and acquiring sexually transmitted diseases. Again, I would like to agree to that because these kids, being young don’t know what they’re getting themselves into. They lack knowledge that’s why they’re brave enough to do the act. Also, Dr. Hyde said, “communications theorists say that as we watch a lot of material like that, we come to believe that it is reality. In this case, kids who watch a lot of TV come to believe that all the kids really are having sex, so they're going to do it too or they are going to be the odd one out.” And this statement is also true because what we are now is mostly because of what see. Mass media plays a massive role on the way we think and perceive things. We are greatly influenced with what we see and since we are always a fan of something and someone, we also tend to imitate what they are doing. To sum it all up, Hotels are expensive. Only the rich kids can afford it without the guilt. The middle and lower class are only willing to spend a little dough that’s why they are opting for some hotel alternatives. Motels are good way to go, but since it can be easily accessed; prostitution, pre-marital sex and rape is rampant in these places. Whether sex is done inside our homes, motels or hotels it is not right to have sex out of marriage because sooner or later we will realize that we should’ve done it with the one who is meant for us than with someone we taught we love and cared for. We brick back virginity and innocence once it’s gone. So better think twice before doing something out of curiosity and lust. |
