MANILA, Philippines - To the tune of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" played by the MMDA Band, men and women in yellow shirts trooped to Times Street, Quezon Avenue, and West 4th Street in Barangay West Triangle in Quezon City on Friday morning to plant about 1,000 seedlings of yellow caballero and golden shower trees to commemorate the first death anniversary of former President Corazon Aquino. |

Several dog owners voluntarily donated yesterday their pets to the K-9 unit of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Manila. Lieutenant Commander Armando Balilo, PCG spokesman and deputy chief of staff for com munity relations said many busy pet owners have responded to their call to donate their dogs to the coast guard.

Barring moonlight and light pollution, stargazers can expect a treat in mid-August watching a meteor shower, state astronomers said Thursday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the famous Perseids meteor shower will peak on August 12.
